Abstrakt EN: The spiral of silence theory is a well-known phenomenon, which helps us to form a picture of the process of the public opinion shaping. In our research, we examine the theory Spiral of Silence in online and offline environments. We use experiment as the method for this investigation, we are about repeating it second time for control purposes. The advantages of the experiment are a stronger control through randomization, flexibility and ability to add a large number of control variables. The aim of the research is therefore to verify the functioning of Spiral of Silence by comparing chatting on the internet with a focus group discussion. The survey questionnaire is also a part of the experiment and asks for the subjective rating of willingness to speak out, and about four selected controversial issues. As an example of online environment we use communication on the internet chat and as an example of offline environment we use communication among respondents in the focus group. If the Spiral of Silence theory functions in the same way in online and offline environments, we will have easier and faster method of the data collection. In each experiment participated between 42-48 respondents. Anonymity is guaranteed during the experiment because we use an identification numbers for all respondents. These identification numbers are hidden and known only to the number holder. The number holders communicate with administrators only via their numbers.
